There's So Much to Do Here!
Hike | Bike | Watch Wildlife | Golf | Canoe | Fish | Ski | Snowshoe | Snowmobile

  • Hike
A plethora of wonderful hiking opportunities awaits you within minutes of Cable Nature Lodge. The Rock Lake Trail is just a mile away and the beautiful Forest Lodge Nature Trail with its towering old growth white pines and hemlocks is within three miles. Other great nearby destinations include North Country National Scenic Trail, St. Peter's Dome/Morgan Falls, and Copper Falls State Park. We can direct you to lots of other special places and are in the process of developing walking trails on our 22 acres connecting with the national forest. Ask about Bill's secret route to the nearby heron rookery and beaver marsh.

  • Bike
Bike the premier system of off-road bike trails in the Midwest. The CAMBA Trails include over 300 miles of marked and mapped routes through a wilderness of striking beauty and peaceful solitude. The popular CAMBA Rock Lake trailhead is located less than a mile from Cable Nature Lodge. If you're more of a road biker the numerous paved town roads and gravel forest roads surrounding the lodge will keep you happy for days. We have great bike maps! If you need to rent bikes check out Riverbrook Bike & Ski in Seeley or New Moon Ski & Bike in Hayward.

  • Watch Wildlife
Birders and other nature lovers will find several nearby sites listed on the Great Wisconsin Birding & Nature Trail. Cable Nature Lodge is located just a mile from site #17 (Rock Lake Trail) and within 10 miles of sites #3 (Day Lake) and #72 (Lynch Creek State Wildlife Area). Be sure to ask for local directions as the website does not necessarily describe the shortest routes from the lodge.

  • Golf
The Cable/Hayward area offers some of the most beautiful golfing in the Midwest. With 13 unique courses to choose from, the Golf Capital of Wisconsin offers breathtaking wooded fairways, rolling hills, majestic northern pines, tranquil lakes, and abundant wildlife. Three courses (Telemark, Forest Ridges, and Tahkodah Hills) are located within a 10 minute drive of the lodge. Teal Wing Golf Club is a bit further but especially recommended as an Audubon International Signature Course developed under strict environmental guidelines designed to maintain natural habitat, decrease chemical and energy use, and reduce solid waste.

  • Canoe
Choose between two great rivers. The upper Namakagon River (alternatively spelled Namekagon) is part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and originates less than two miles from the lodge. The White River may be northern Wisconsin's best kept secret for a non-white water canoe experience conducive to fishing and floating through a secluded wilderness setting. Bear Country in Drummond offers canoe and kayak rental plus shuttle service for the White River and nearby lakes.

  • Fish
Musky, walleye, northern, bass, bluegill, perch, crappie, trout...you'll find them all in the numerous lakes, rivers, and streams surrounding Cable Nature Lodge. Click Here for some ideas of what, when, and where to fish in the Cable area.
  • Ski
Cable Nature Lodge is surrounded by some of the finest Nordic skiing in the Midwest. Less than a mile away, the beautiful and convenient Rock Lake Trail features a half dozen single track classic loops ranging from 2 km to 16 km winding through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. But if that's not enough to keep you happy there are a plethora of great ski trails located within a 10-30 minute drive of Cable Nature Lodge. They include the American Birkebeiner Trail, North End Trails, Namekagon Ski Trail, Telemark Ski Trails, Drummond Ski Trails, and Penokee Mountain Ski Trails. If downhill skiing is more your thing "Wisconsin's Snowiest Ski Resort" is within an hour's drive.

  • Snowshoe
If you'd prefer to experience the the wonders of winter on snowshoes you can simply strap on a pair at the front door of the lodge to explore the trails winding across our 22 acres and connecting with the adjoining national forest. But we also are fortunate to have some wonderful designated snowshoe trails within a very short drive. They include Forest Lodge Nature Trail, North End Snowshoe Trails, Diamond Lake Snowshoe Hike, Porcupine Lake Wilderness, Telemark Snowshoe Trails, Morgan Falls/St. Peters Dome, North Country Trail, and Rainbow Lake Wilderness. If you don't have your own snowshoes we have several pairs available to borrow.

  • Snowmobile
The Cable area has hundreds of miles of the most exceptional and uncrowded snowmobile trails in Wisconsin. Trail #70 is conveniently located just across the road from Cable Nature Lodge. Click HERE for more information and relevant links, including a local trail map.
