White Pine

White Pine
King of the Northwoods, the magnificent stands of virgin white pine were the primary impetus that spurred early white settlement of northwest Wisconsin. Beginning around 1880 logging camps and lumber mills sprouted up all around the Cable area. The 22 acres on which the lodge now sits was once owned by the giant North Wisconsin Lumber Company. Fortunately white pines gradually are returning to their former prominence. One of these young monarchs is framed in the large window adjacent to your beautiful cherry Queen bed. Includes private bath with shower. Air-conditioned.

Cable Depot

Cable Depot
Logging spurred the development of NW Wisconsin, but the railroad facilitated it. Each year the North Wisconsin Railway pushed some 20 miles further north through the timber rich Namakagon Valley. When the construction season ended a new town was platted and new depot built at the end of the line. Cable was founded at its present location in 1880 when track building fell three miles short of the intended terminus that year on Long Lake (now Lake Owen). The Cable Depot served as the heart of the community until passenger service ceased in the mid-1950s. Freight service continued but the tracks finally were removed in 1979, just a year shy of the Cable centennial. The high-backed Queen bed in this room is reminiscent of the Cable Depot, now relocated to the community park just west of town. Private bath is fully ADA accessible including shower with fold down transfer seat. Air-conditioned.

A tribute to the 858,000 acre Chequamegon (sho-WAH-ma-gon)-Nicolet National Forest that borders the lodge on two sides, this room features a cherry wrought iron Queen bed topped by a stunning woven rug motif duvet. The name Chequamegon is derived from an Ojibway word meaning "place of shallow water," and refers to Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay 45 miles to our north. Includes private bath with tub and shower. Air-conditioned.

Camp Cable

Camp Cable
This spacious room with large south-facing windows pays homage to the more than three million young men who, as members of the Depression era Civilian Conservation Corps, helped renew the nation's decimated forests by planting an estimated three billion trees, building fire lanes, and constructing recreational facilities across the nation from 1933 to 1942. But the distinctive Queen bed of distressed rustic oak is undoubtedly a lot more stylish than the bunks assigned to members of CCC Company 1676 at Camp Cable, once located just a few miles east of the lodge. Includes private bath with shower. Air-conditioned.
