There’s So Much to Do Here!

Hike

A plethora of wonderful hiking opportunities awaits you within minutes of Cable Nature Lodge. We’re located in the heart of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The Rock Lake Trail is just a mile away and the beautiful Forest Lodge Nature Trail with its towering old growth white pines and hemlocks is within three miles. We also especially recommend the Morgan Falls/St. Peter’s Dome Trail, and the nearby Porcupine Lake, Rainbow Lake, and Old Swedish Settlement segments of the North Country National Scenic Trail, all within 20-30 minutes of the lodge. Click HERE for a full list and description of nearby day hikes in the national forest. And don’t miss the awesome hiking at Copper Falls State Park, a scenic 40 minute drive to our northeast. For a more leisurely stroll you’ll enjoy the mowed walking trails that traverse our own 22 acres.

Bike

Bike the premier system of off-road bike trails in the Midwest. The CAMBA Trails include over 300 miles of marked and mapped routes through a wilderness of striking beauty and peaceful solitude. Cable Nature Lodge is located in the heart of the CAMBA trail system, with the popular Rock Lake trailhead less than a mile from our front door. If you’re more of a road biker the lightly traveled paved roads surrounding the lodge and looping around our nearby lakes will keep you happy for days. And don’t forget fat biking, perhaps the fastest growing winter sport in our area!

Golf

The Cable/Hayward area offers some of the most beautiful golfing in the Midwest. With 13 unique courses to choose from, the Golf Capital of Wisconsin offers breathtaking wooded fairways, rolling hills, majestic northern pines, tranquil lakes, and abundant wildlife. Telemark and Forest Ridges golf courses are located within a 10 minute drive of the lodge. We also recommend nearby Big Fish, a Pete Dye designed course, named one of the “Top Ten Best Places to Play” in Wisconsin by Golfweek.

Canoe

Choose between two great rivers. The upper Namekagon River (alternatively spelled Namakagon) is part of the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway and originates less than two miles from the lodge. The White River may be northern Wisconsin’s best kept secret for a non-white water canoe experience conducive to fishing and floating through a secluded wilderness setting. Bear Country offers canoe and kayak rental plus shuttle service for both rivers as well as nearby lakes.

Fish

Musky, walleye, northern, bass, bluegill, perch, crappie, trout…you’ll find them all in the numerous lakes, rivers, and streams surrounding Cable Nature Lodge. Click HERE for some ideas of what, when, and where to fish in the Cable area.

Watch Wildlife

Birders and other nature lovers will find several nearby sites listed in the Great Wisconsin Birding & Nature Trail. Cable Nature Lodge is located just a mile from site #17 (Rock Lake Trail) and within 10-15 miles of sites #3 (Day Lake), #5 (Mineral Lake), #13 (Marengo Overlook), and #72 (Lynch Creek State Wildlife Area). Be sure to ask for local directions as the guide doesn’t necessarily describe the shortest routes from the lodge.

Ski

Cable Nature Lodge is surrounded by some of the finest Nordic skiing in the Midwest. You can view area ski trails and conditions by clicking HERE. If downhill skiing is more your thing “Wisconsin’s Snowiest Ski Resort” is within an hour’s drive.

Snowshoe

If you prefer to experience the the wonders of winter on snowshoes you can simply strap on a pair at the front door of the lodge to explore the trails winding across our 22 acres and connecting with the adjoining national forest. But we’re also fortunate to have some wonderful designated snowshoe trails within a short drive.
